IF YOU HAVEN’T YET
- Contact Shelter Corp. staff about your new lease and recertification.
- Contact Housing Opportunities Unlimited (HOU) for your consultation and assessment survey.
DESIGN CHOICES
- Do I have any choice in the colors or materials?
- Yes, residents will have the opportunity to choose a wall accent color.
- More information will be provided on how you make the choice.
IN-PLACE RENOVATIONS
“In-Place Renovations”: You’ll remain living in your home during renovation.
- That’s right! You don’t need to move during renovations.
- Our contractor, Frerichs Construction, has extensive experience with “in-place renovations,” which will minimize disruptions.
- If you have questions or concerns about the in-place renovations, please contact Housing Opportunities Unlimited (HOU).
- Before the crew is ready to start, we will hold additional community meetings.
- At that time, you will receive instructions on moving your things out of the way.
PACKING AND PERSONAL ITEMS
- What if I need further accommodations for my service or emotional support animal?
- HOU can help with arrangements. Please also see the “Things to Do in the Area” list, which will be provided at the next meetings.
- Will help be available for packing and moving?
- Residents will be provided with packing materials.
- For large furniture and items that will need to be moved out of the way, moving assistance can be provided. Contact HOU relocation specialists.
- Will storage be available for my things?
- Yes, storage accommodations can be made during your unit renovation. Contact HOU.
- Is it ok to store things in my townhome garage?
- Yes. Work will not be done on the garages.
- When/where will a dumpster be available?
- Dumpster days will occur prior to the renovation. Please stay tuned for further information.
- Will I have to purchase packing supplies?
- No, boxes and other packing materials will be provided. Contact HOU if you have items that may need special care.
- What about my medical equipment, houseplants, or other sensitive items?
- Contact HOU relocation specialists so they can assist in planning for these items.
- Will there still be proper accessibility during construction?
- Yes, the renovation team will prioritize accessibility needs.
COMMON AREAS
- Will I be able to use the common spaces and amenities during construction?
- The construction process will be in phases so that residents are impacted as little as possible. Some common spaces and amenities will be closed during their allotted renovation phase.
- Temporary private spaces will be constructed for personal use when needed. Please stay tuned for further information.
- Will the laundry move?
- Availability of laundry machines may be impacted from time to time. At least one laundry room will always be available.
- No impacts are expected to laundry access for townhome residents.
- Will trash and recycling change?
- No permanent changes are anticipated to trash and recycling disposal.
DURING RENOVATIONS
- How long will the renovation in my unit take?
- Once started, renovations are expected to take approximately three weeks for each unit. There may be adjustments to the schedule if needed.
- NOTE: Normal workdays will be Monday to Friday.
- How will utility payments be handled?
- Utility usage during renovation will be compared to your average utility usage.
- Any differences on your utility bill during therenovation can be reimbursed back to you. Contact HOU and Shelter with any questions.
- What happens if I plan to travel during renovation?
- Contact HOU relocation specialists.

THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA DURING RENOVATIONS
Prior to the start of renovations, we will provide a “Things to Do in the Area” list of free and low-cost local places and activities so you can get away from the hustle and bustle for a short time.
