We celebrate Fair Housing Month for so many reasons!

April is Fair Housing Month, marking the anniversary of the Fair Housing Act. This law was created to stop discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, gender, national origin, family status, or disability. The Fair Housing Act guarantees all individuals the right to safe and affordable housing, regardless of their protected characteristics. Fair Housing Month highlights this principle, emphasizing that fair housing is a fundamental human right.

  • Fair Housing Act Protections:
The Fair Housing Act safeguards individuals from discrimination in the processes of renting or purchasing a home, obtaining a mortgage, seeking housing assistance, or participating in other housing-related activities.
  • Promoting Awareness:
Fair Housing Month is dedicated to enhancing awareness of the significance of equitable housing. It encourages individuals to become informed about their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act.
  • Impact on Communities:
Fair Housing is essential for fostering vibrant and prosperous communities, ensuring that all individuals have the opportunity to prosper.
  • Ongoing Efforts:
Even though we’ve made progress against housing discrimination, we still need to work to make sure everyone has equal chances at housing. Fair Housing Month reminds us to stay dedicated to expanding homeownership opportunities and building inclusive communities.
  • How to Participate:
Throughout Fair Housing Month, people can delve into the history of the Fair Housing Act, understand their rights, and learn more about Fair Housing principles.
