About Board Chair Olasimbo

In January 2025, Commissioner Temmy Olasimbo was voted chair of the Washington County CDA Board of Commissioners. Appointed as the District 5 Representative in 2021, Chair Olasimbo has lived in Washington County for over two decades.

Chair Olasimbo unites a wealth of experience from various community service roles with a strategic management leadership style developed in the for-profit sector. Her goals as chairperson include proactively implementing the initiatives outlined in the CDA’s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan; developing and expanding partnerships; supporting the CDA’s forward-focused, efficient, and sustainable strategies; and showcasing the work of the CDA throughout the county.

Chair Olasimbo appreciates the diverse perspectives of the CDA Board, which represent the entire county. Their collaborative approach enhances understanding of the residents and businesses served by CDA. As chair, she recognizes that the CDA’s work is integral to building a vibrant future for Washington County.


Q&A with Chair Olasimbo

1) What do you like most about serving on the CDA board?

“I’m passionate about affordable housing, supporting our communities, and economic vitality, and the CDA’s holistic approach to creating programs that are responsive, relevant, effective and sustainable makes it easier for the board to effect policies that benefit communities.”

2) What motivates you to do community service work?

“My mother instilled her passion in me to do service work. Her philosophy was, ‘To whom much is given, much is expected.’ That financial contribution shouldn’t be the only option but also expertise, knowledge, time, and passion. When the opportunity to be on the CDA Board became available, I embraced the chance to serve.

3) Do you have any personal goals regarding the CDA during your board chair appointment?

“In addition to building on the strategic initiatives, I’m laser focused on telling the story of the CDA. In order to provide resources, develop new connections, and expand existing partnerships, it is important to reach our various audiences with compelling stories, highlighting the positive impact for today and our hope for the future.

4) How does your personal experience guide board discussion and development?

“I appreciate that the Board represents all areas of the county, and I’m impressed with the passion and determination of fellow board members in fostering a commitment to building and sustaining thriving communities. For me, understanding the perspectives of other Board Commissioners as well as those served by CDA is key. It’s all about empathy and collaboration. In addition, my personal experience in the for-profit sector informs my way of thinking — being focused on goals and objectives but also key measures to gauge the impacts of the work.”

5) Would you like to share any thoughts about the current strategic priorities and initiatives?

“To start, I’m proud that the CDA has a strategic plan and initiatives, which sets us apart. The strategic plan grounds and anchors both board and staff, helping us to focus on being intentional and proactive about implementation. I also appreciate that the strategic plan is broken down into categories with measurable outcomes.”
